Is the drop down menu transparent?

I noticed that when I click on the :apple: or one of the other menus at the top, it seems to be solid white, but when I move my head to view it from the side, it appears transparent. Is this normal?

Lol, I was actually being serious though. Like shift your head to view your macbook pro from the side. The drop down menu appears transparent. Well in any case, is it transparent or solid for you guys?

Since the laptop can't detect where your head is and start changing transparency levels of menu items based on this, I'd go with it just being a trick of the light....or the booze/drugs :p ;)

So it's supposed to be solid white then right?
 
At first I thought this was a joke, then I clicked and saw for myself, and all I have to say is..



DUDE YOU'RE RIGHT! IT DOES TURN TRANSPARENT! HOLY ****


Instead of changing angles from side to side, go up and down. IT REALLY WORKS

Lol, next time you're at your mac try this. A better way to explain it would be to keep the :apple: pressed down while being on Firefox. Then get up and look at the screen from the side. The menu appears transparent, and you can see whatever is in the web browser underneath.

LOL, isn't it crazy? I'm glad I have some credibility now.
 
In all seriousness, yes, the menu bar is translucent by default. Of course, how translucent it appears to be really depends on your desktop image (like how light or dark it is).

You can turn this feature off in System Preferences under the Desktop & Screensaver pane. The checkbox is near the bottom of the window.

Yea I saw that feature, but what I'm referring to is the drop down menus themselves, not the bar that goes across the top. From the front they appear solid white, but change to transparent white from the side.

This is independent of that feature and remains the same whether it is turned on or off

All of Apple's menus appear that way... what's wrong with you? It's an option to 'Turn off Menu Bar Transparency.' SYSTEM PREFS>DESKTOP/SCREENSAVER>DESKTOP>there.

I'm referring to the drop down menus themselves, not the menu bar. And there is nothing wrong with me, thanks.

Yea kinda like that, and then when you move your head farther to the side, it becomes very transparent.

These menus are transparent all the time. When you look at the screen from an angle it appears darker, so you're more likely to notice it. Trust me, I've looked at my screen from all possible distances and angles (I have an Air with lines) ;).
